Why Practice Guide Exists
Most clinicians are highly trained to do clinical work, but far less prepared for the practical realities of running a practice. Decisions about insurance, documentation, fees, systems, and sustainability are often learned informally, through trial and error, or through advice that is incomplete or inconsistent.
The Practice Guide exists to offer clear, experience-based guidance for those parts of practice most clinicians were never formally taught. The goal is not to tell you what to do, but to help you understand your options so you can make informed, ethical decisions with confidence.
Who’s Behind Practice Guide
Practice Guide was created by Dr. Janell Mihelic, a licensed psychologist with over a decade of experience in private practice, psychological assessment, supervision, and training.
Over the years, the same questions and points of confusion surface again and again, across early-career clinicians, seasoned professionals, and those transitioning into private practice. Practice Guide grew out of that pattern and desire to offer clear, experience-based guidance without fear-based messaging or one-size-fits-all answers.
How to Use Practice Guide
Practice Guide is designed to be used thoughtfully and at your own pace. Some clinicians begin with articles to orient themselves. Others start with tools they can apply immediately. There is no “right” order.
Start where it feels most useful.
